About Gear & Logic

What We Do

Gear & Logic is a technical buying guide for people who value function over fashion. I write for makers, biohackers, productivity professionals, and the people shopping for them.

Every post features five curated products that solve a specific problem. I focus on logic-driven investments: tools that work harder, last longer, and integrate into systems rather than collect dust.

Who This Is For

My primary audience is gift-buyers—people shopping for someone who already knows what they’re doing. If you’re buying for a maker who has strong opinions about thread pitch, a biohacker tracking HRV trends, or a productivity professional with a cable management system, you’re in the right place.

I also write for the people receiving those gifts: the EDC enthusiasts, the data-driven athletes, the DIY builders who need expert-level recommendations without the marketing fluff.

My Approach

I write in the “Expert Peer” voice. That means I sound like a colleague recommending tools over a workbench, not a marketing team pushing products. I assume you’re tech-confident and logic-driven. I don’t explain what Bluetooth is—I explain why this specific Bluetooth implementation matters.

Every recommendation includes:

  • Real-world utility: What specific problem does this solve?
  • Pragmatic justification: Why should a logic-driven buyer choose this?
  • Honest trade-offs: Every product has limitations. I name them.
  • Technical specs that matter: Build materials, protocol support, battery life—the data that influences purchase decisions.

I prioritize infrastructure over aesthetics. A tool that improves your workflow is worth more than a tool that improves your Instagram grid.

How I Choose Products

My selection criteria prioritize technical merit, not commission rates. I recommend products based on:

  • Build quality: Materials, manufacturing tolerances, expected lifespan.
  • Functional design: Does the engineering solve the problem it claims to solve?
  • System integration: Does this tool work with the rest of your setup, or does it require rebuilding everything around it?
  • Logic-driven value: Price relative to performance, durability, and utility.

I don’t recommend products I wouldn’t use myself or buy for colleagues who trust my judgment.

Editorial Standards

I include at least one honest trade-off for every product I recommend. Real limitations matter. If something has a design flaw, compatibility constraint, or price premium that affects the buying decision, I say so.

Trade-offs build trust. You’re not here for a sales pitch—you’re here for an informed perspective from someone who thinks the way you do.

Affiliate Disclosure

Gear & Logic participates in affiliate marketing programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. When you purchase products through links on this site, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

What This Means

When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. Your price stays the same—you’re not charged extra for using our links.

Why We Use Affiliate Links

Affiliate commissions help cover the cost of running this site: hosting, research time, and content production. More importantly, they allow us to keep the content free and accessible without paywalls or subscriptions.

My Commitment

My product recommendations are based on technical merit, real-world utility, and logical value—not commission rates. I recommend products I’d actually use myself or buy for colleagues who trust my judgment.

Here’s how I maintain editorial integrity:

  • I don’t optimize for commissions. If a better tool exists with a lower commission rate, I recommend the better tool.
  • I include honest trade-offs for every product. Real limitations matter. If something has a design flaw, compatibility issue, or price premium, I say so.
  • I prioritize long-term trust over short-term conversions. My reputation depends on making good recommendations. A bad call costs me more than any commission earns.

What You Should Know

  • Not every link on this site is an affiliate link. Some products don’t have affiliate programs. I recommend them anyway if they’re the right tool for the job.
  • Commission rates vary by product category and retailer. I don’t let that influence my recommendations.
  • Amazon prices and availability change frequently. I can’t guarantee the price you see matches what’s listed in my posts.

If you have concerns about our affiliate relationships or editorial process, contact us at [your email]. I’m transparent about how this site operates.

Who Runs This

Gear & Logic is run by me. Hi, I’m Jake—a tech enthusiast and chronic optimizer who’s spent too much time researching the “right” version of every tool. This site exists because the affiliate content out there prioritizes search rankings over actual recommendations. I wanted a resource I’d trust myself—so I built it.
